Suicidal thoughts can come to anyone. Even a man or woman of God.
Here are a few people in the Bible who struggled with suicidal thoughts:
Elijah
Jonah
Judas
Saul
Don’t think you’re alone.
We must understand that this is a spiritual attack.
It’s a dark spirit that wants to impregnate the mind with thoughts of depression, anxiety, fear, and weariness.
Suicide can come from unworthiness, overwhelm, and exhaustion just to name a few.
We have to remember God’s promises when battling the spirit of suicide:
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”(Romans 8:28)
God is using the circumstance for His greater purpose. Every thing the enemy meant for evil God will use it for good.
“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9)
Weariness is only for a season. Keep on doing good. Keep on pursing God. God will turn things around in due season. Commit your mind, heart, and soul to worshipping Him.
“He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
(Isaiah 40:29-31)
5 keys to battling the spirit of suicide:
1. Don’t do it alone. Open up to someone. Share your struggles with godly counsel so they can pray for you
“not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25)
2. Know how much God loves you. Know Christ died for you.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
3. Know that God has a purpose, a plan, and a calling for you.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
4. Understand you’re in a spiritual battle. Pray against any spirit of suicide or depression.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10-11)
5. Continue to praise the Lord
“(God) consoles those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:3)
In Jesus name.
